I spent a day at the Design Show in London this week researching colours, textures and trends to include in my contemporary paintings - both still life flowers and abstract landscapes. Far more than just a finishing touch, a well chosen piece of art can transform the look and feel of a space. 'Nothing is finished without art. It's what defines the space'. When it comes to decorating with art there are no rulebooks - you should choose art because you love it and your interior scheme can work around your art. A favourite art work can be a fabulous source of inspiration for an interior scheme. When you are thinking about matching a colour scheme it's often good to pinpoint one or two of the boldest colours in the room and reflect those in your chosen artwork or indeed choose a colour in your artwork to highlight by using the same tone in cushions and other soft furnishings. I have been working on a project with a customer for a piece of art work to bring her kitchen to life - picking out colours and tones from the soft furnishings and decor. That's for another blog!
